The girl, a lover of nature and flowers, cared with love and attention to the plants on her balcony which was very nice. Those who passed couldn't help but stop to admire it. One day a young Moor passed by, struck by his beauty, and did everything he could to have his love at any cost. The girl was struck by so much passion and reciprocated the love of the young Moor. Soon, however, he met the greatest disappointment that a girl could know when the handsome Moor decided to return to his country where he had a wife with two children.
The girl did not stay to watch, waited for the night and as soon as the Moor fell asleep killed him and then cut off his head.
And out of contempt he put that head on the balcony, made it a vase where he planted basil and so the beautiful liar and traitor would stay forever with her. The basil had such a flourishing growth that it aroused the envy of all those who passed under its balcony and all the inhabitants of the neighborhood had specially built terracotta vases in the shape of Moor's Head.
